about
Cooper Wolken's second single from his forthcoming debut album, "Chapters" - due June 9. “How” bounces between being broken up with and doing the leaving, between the end of a relationship and the falling in. With a low rolling bass drum thunder, icy piano, and fingerpicked guitar that underscore hushed melodies reminiscent of Sung Tongs-era Animal Collective, Wolken offers a circle of soft-spoken yet sure-footed questions that match the acoustic structure—a relationship devolving with each new syllable.
lyrics
How can you say
You wanted the same things?
How can you say
You tried to make it right?
And how, how did you convince yourself?
You got it all wrong
Give yourself away
Risk all the pain
It’s worth it they say
And why run away
When the sun is out on a summer day?
Why would you run
From your only one? At least I thought I was
And how, how do you expect me to
Forget you now?
Give yourself away
Risk all the pain
It’s worth it they say
